1 hour flight where you can determine whether flying is right for you. If you choose to continue on, this discovery flight is your first hour of flight lessons toward a private pilot's license.

Private Pilot License

Start your journey by becoming a private pilot. You will:

Receive and log a minimum of 40 hours of flight time, including:

  • 20 hours of flight training from an FAA authorized instructor  3 hours of cross-country flight training

  • 3 hours of instrument training
  • 3 hours of Practical Test preparation

  • 3 hours of night flight training

  • 10 takeoffs and landings to a full stop

  • 1 cross-country flight of over 100 NM total distance

  • 10 hours of solo flight training 

  • 5 hours of solo cross-country time

  • 1 solo cross country of at least 150 NM with full stop landings at a minimum of 3 points

  • 3 takeoffs and landings to a full stop at a towered airport (Craig Field is towered and not busy).

Part 61 requirements quoted. 

Average Cost: $13,500-$18,000.00 depending on the number of hours and training required per student. 40 is the minimum and most people require around 50 hours and some require more or need housing and/or meals (which we provide).

Instrument Rating

To receive your instrument rating, you must hold at least a current private pilot certificate or be concurrently applying for a private pilot certificate with an airplane, helicopter, or powered-lift rating appropriate to the instrument rating sought.

You must have logged:

  • At least 50 hours of cross-country flight time as pilot in command. At least 10 of these hours must be in airplanes for an instrument-airplane rating.

  • A total of 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time on the areas of operation listed in 61.65(c).

  • At least 15 hours of instrument flight training from an authorized instructor in the aircraft category for the instrument rating sought.

  • Solo flight at a distance of at least 250 nm along airways or ATC-directed routing.

  • An instrument approach at each airport.

  • Three different kinds of approaches with the use of navigation systems (Example: ILS, VOR, GPS, etc).

  • At least 3 hours of instrument training that is appropriate to the instrument rating sought from an authorized instructor in preparation for the checkride within two calendar months before the examination date.

Average Cost: $10,500-$15,000.00 depending on the number of hours and training required per student. 

Commercial Rating 

To earn a commercial pilot rating under 14 CFR Part 61, you must meet age (18), English proficiency, and pilot certificate requirements, log 250 hours of flight time including specific Pilot-in-Command (PIC) and cross-country hours, complete 20 hours of flight training (including 10 hours of instrument and 10 hours in a complex, Technically Advanced Aircraft (TAA), or turbine-powered aircraft), complete specific solo and instructor-guided cross-country flights, and pass the FAA's written and practical (flight) tests.

CFI Certificate

If you are looking to build hours to go to the airlines or if being an instructor pilot is a good career choice for you, Aeropro can help. To become a Certificated Flight Instructor (CFI), you have to meet these minimum requirements:

  • Be 18 years of age

  • Read, speak, write and understand the English language

  • Hold either a commercial pilot certificate or airline transport pilot certificate and an instrument rating

  • Have logged at least 250 hours of flight time

  • Hold a valid FAA 3rd Class Medical Certificate (or higher)

  • Receive a logbook endorsement from an authorized instructor on the fundamentals of instructing

  • Pass a knowledge test on the aeronautical knowledge areas appropriate to the flight instructor rating sought

Multi-Engine Rating

To receive your instrument rating, you must hold at least a current private pilot certificate.

  • Ground instruction from an authorized instructor that covers the unique systems and flight characteristics of multi-engine aircraft. 

  • Flight instruction in the actual multi-engine aircraft (not just in a simulator), practicing normal operations as well as emergencies, like single-engine failure during different phases of flight. 

  • Endorsements in your logbook verifying you’re prepared for the checkride and that you’ve been trained to the standards outlined in the FAA’s Airman Certification Standards (ACS) for multi-engine add-ons. 

Average Cost: $10,000-$15,000.00 depending on the number of hours and training required per student.
