Power Up!

As we discussed in a previous blog post, both engines on Sweet Potato were old and tired. In fact, according to the engine logs the last time one of them had been overhauled was 1979!

Time for that to change.

A new Lycoming engine for Sweet Potato

Our FAA-certified A&P mechanics removed both engines from the airframe and sent them to Pinnacle Aircraft Engines in Silverhill, AL for the overhaul.

We received both Lycomings in beautiful shape as you can see in the pictures. Almost looks like brand new engines from the factory.

Our previous experience with Pinnacle includes an overhauled Lycoming O-320 D2J for one of our flight school Cessna 172 Skyhawk aircraft. It has performed flawlessly, so we have similar expectations for these two powerplants.

Once we get all connections, fuel lines, propellers and gauges hooked up on both sides, it will be time to fire up Sweet Potato for the first time in a couple of years. Boy, will that be a great feeling!

Stay tuned...
